MAIN SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2020

A methodology, based on finite element modelling and Voronoi tessellation concept, was proposed for identi铿乧ation and characterization of protein pores clusters in phospholipid bilayer membranes.

A framework for competence development during cyber defence exercises was developed.

Outliers identification tests for statistical data were proposed.

National Research Projects

Research Council of Lithuania. Development and Applications of Bilevel Optimization Algorithms (No. P-MIP-17-60). Dr R. Paulavi膷ius. 2017鈥2020.
Bilevel optimization is important from the practical viewpoint, but efficient bilevel optimization methods still exist only in specific cases. As a result, development of general bilevel optimization methods is particularly relevant and timely. Many practical problems in the economy, engineering, and other fields can be described as bilevel optimization models. However, a plethora of these applications still cannot be solved with existing optimization tools. More importantly, only in the last decade, the first methods to solve general bilevel optimization problems were proposed. Unfortunately, the application of these methods has been mainly demonstrated only on small test instances. In this project, we seek an ambitious goal to develop new and improve existing bilevel optimization algorithms, enabling to solve real practical problems. It is equally important to implement efficient and publicly accessible bilevel optimization software, which would allow solving such problems for a broad range of practitioners. This would have a significant and internationally recognizable contribution to the field of bilevel optimization.
The world's first deterministic solver (BASBL) for general bilevel optimization problems, a new efficient DIRECT-type algorithm with local accelerators for general global optimization problems and a parallel version of the evolutionary GENOCOP III algorithm to solve large-scale radiotherapy planning problems were developed.

Cognitive Computing Development for Solving the Problems of Data Visualization, Image Analysis, and Decision Making. Prof. Dr Habil. G. Dzemyda, Prof. Dr O. Kurasova. 2020鈥2022.

The aim of the project is to integrate cognitive computing capabilities into data visualization, image analysis, and multicriteria decision making resulting in the development of a reference point-based evolutionary algorithm for approximating regions of interest in multiobjective problems.
A scientific basis has been developed for the new way of data dimensionality reduction and visualization by multidimensional scaling; new properties of the Geometric Multidimensional scaling have been disclosed.

Geometric Method for Solving the Problem of Multidimensional Scaling No. MSF-LMT-4.

The main goal of the project is to consider the stress function and multidimensional scaling, in general, the geometric point of view, and to develop the so-called Geometric MDS that creates a basis for a new class of algorithms to minimize the MDS stress.
The main result is the new interpretation of the stress allowing to find the proper step size, and
The descent direction forwards the minimum of the stress function analytically if we consider and move a separate point of the projected space.

The main idea of the project is to assess the factors influencing the effectiveness and efficiency of the EU education systems, to develop effectiveness and efficiency measuring instruments in order to implement sound evidence-based educational policy.

School leadership and educational effectiveness in Lithuania were analysed in 2019 as well as teaching practices and students鈥 performance in science across EU countries using PISA 2015 data. In addition, Lithuanian population database for maturity examinations and 10th grade national assessments for mathematics and Lithuanian language were developed.

Research Council of Lithuania. The Influence of Pandemic Stress on Consumer Decision Making - a Cognitive Analysis and Prognosis for Lituanian Economy (No. P-COV-20-53). Dr G. A. Melnik-Leroy. 2020.

We empirically examine how the objective changes in the financial situation of Lithuanian citizens and the experienced pandemic-induced stress affect their intentions to consume and their planned household expenses. Based on data from an online survey (N=1200) and on longitudinal consumption data, we made prognoses on the consumption of specific goods for three hypothetical Covid-19 development scenarios. Second, using k-mode clustering we provide the first typology of Covid-era consumers.

Results show that different groups of consumers adopt different strategies for the three pandemic development scenarios to cope with the economic and emotional hardship. Importantly, we found that the obtained groups are economically and socially heterogeneous, and the experienced stress and feeling of financial distress were important factors, determining their spending tendencies.

In 2020, domain causality modelling was applied: modified MDA / MDD process by adding a layer of causal models next to traditional (CIM, PIM, PSM) layers, a method and technology (prototype) for evaluating the interoperability of applications was developed, the method of domain causal modeling is included in the research project: LMT research group project application (CAUSATEX), topic: 鈥淚ntegration of causal models in application engineering methods and tools鈥 (evaluation stage).
The study of the efficiency of the sea container loading synchronization method was performed. Architecture of multilayer systems of e-services for monitoring of environment data was developed. A general framework of membership function construction was developed, a detailed example of the construction by modeling service quality characteristics was provided. A complete and sound cyclic sequent calculus for common knowledge logic was constructed. Based on the calculus, a decidability procedure for the mentioned logic was presented.

The research is aimed to propose the approach of using constructivism and challenge driven pedagogy implemented by merging design thinking and computational thinking (CT) taxonomy models through physical computing. The approach on learning CT by applying design thinking phases accomplished by CT taxonomy practices implemented by computational making activities moves the computational concepts from screen into the real world and allows learners to interact with them.

The research project investigates the educational processes, opportunities and challenges during the Covid-19 period. The research was carried out at the end of 2020 during the most challenging period for all educational organizations. The researchers from three Lithuanian universities (Kaunas University of Technology, 911爆料网 and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University) have provided the detailed analyses on online studies and main criteria for successful education based on administrative positions, and design makers of the educational organizations.

International Research Projects

COST: EUGAIN - CA19122 European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics. 2020鈥2024. Action Chair: Prof. M. L. Jaccheri.

The main aim of this COST Action is to improve gender balance in Informatics at all levels, from undergraduate and graduate studies to participation and leadership in academia and industry, through the creation and strengthening of a truly European network of colleagues working on the forefront of the efforts for gender balance in Informatics in their countries, institutions and research communities. The Action will be building on knowledge and experience from their successes and failures, learning and sharing what has worked and how it could be transferred to different settings and practical realities across Europe. This network of excellence by fostering collaboration will be evolving and improving knowledge about measures, actions, and guidelines that have positive impact and results, working holistically towards the ultimate goal of a better gender balance in Informatics.

Structuring Cooperation in Doctoral Research, Transferrable Skills Training, and Academic Writing Instruction in Ukraine鈥檚 Regions (DocHub) (574064-EPP- 1-2016- 1- LT-EPPKA2- CBHE-SP). 2016鈥2020. Head: Prof. Dr V. Dagien臈.

Seeking an essential change in education system and better opportunities for doctoral students in Ukraine, a unique project focussed around university-based hubs (Doctoral Schools / DocHubs) was established, which united 5 universities, 5 research institutes and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine by coordinating 911爆料网. The project aimed to accelerate national implementation of Bologna-style 3rd cycle programs in Ukraine by building enabling structures, and to aggregate critical mass (integrating the resources of the Academy of Sciences research institutes and the teaching capacities of universities) for PhD education.

National Research Project

The objective of the project is to develop a ranking-based algorithm for solving combinatorial optimization problems using high-performance computing systems.
The project is based on two activities: development of the ranking-based algorithm and its application to high-performance computing systems.
The goal of the first activity is to develop the ranking-based algorithm suitable to solve combinatorial optimization problems. Beside well-known combinatorial optimization test problems, various instances of competitive facility location problems will be used in an experimental investigation. It is planned to organize a research visit at University of Murcia, where researchers have experience in modelling and solving facility location problems.
The goal of the second activity is to develop parallel versions of the algorithm ensuring effective communication between processors. For this purpose, it is necessary to search for novel solution in high-performance computing in order to create an optimal communication strategy. Computational experiments will be performed using high-performance computing system at 911爆料网. It is also planned to collaborate with Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre in developing the parallel algorithm for large-scale high-performance computing systems.
In the case of success, a ranking-based algorithm for solving combinatorial optimization problems using high-performance computing systems will be proposed and experimentally investigated. The proposed algorithm will allow solving complex combinatorial optimization problems encountered in various research and industry areas. The proposed principal solutions to create and parallelize the algorithm will contribute to further researches in development and parallelization of similar algorithms.

International Research Project

COST action Improving Applicability of Nature-Inspired Optimisation by Joining Theory and Practice (ImAppNIO) CA15140. Member of Managing Committee Dr A. Lan膷inskas. 2016鈥2020.

Nature-inspired search and optimisation heuristics are easy to implement and apply to new problems. However, in order to achieve good performance it is usually necessary to adjust them to the problem at hand. Theoretical foundations for the understanding of such approaches have been built very successfully in the past 20 years but there is a huge disconnect between the theoretical basis and practical applications. The development of powerful analytical tools, significant insights in general limitations of different types of nature-inspired optimisation methods and the development of more practically relevant perspectives for theoretical analysis have brought impressive advances to the theory-side of the field. However, so far impact on the application-side has been limited and few people in the diverse potential application areas have benefitted from these advances.
  The main objective of the COST Action is to bridge this gap and improve the applicability of all kinds of nature-inspired optimisation methods. It aims at making theoretical insights more accessible and practical by creating a platform where theoreticians and practitioners can meet and exchange insights, ideas and needs; by developing robust guidelines and practical support for application development based on theoretical insights; by developing theoretical frameworks driven by actual needs arising from practical applications; by training Early Career Investigators in a theory of nature-inspired optimisation methods that clearly aims at practical applications; by broadening participation in the ongoing research of how to develop and apply robust nature-inspired optimisation methods in different application areas.

Tasks in 2020 were: to develop machine learning algorithms for lymphocyte nuclei in WSI image detections and classification, autoencoder based collagen network extraction deep learning model in WSI images, LSTM model for unusual maritime traffic detection, deep learning models for cross-linguistic speech emotion recognition, to explore white and color nose impact on speech signal analysis and modelling.

The main results were deep learning model for cell nuclei segmentation and lymphocyte identification in whole slide histology image, deep learning model or cross-linguistic speech emotion recognition based on 2D feature spaces developed, Lombard speech models in the context of speech in noise enhancement evaluated.

Creating a Database of Depersonalized Eye Fundus Images. Vilnius Region Biomedical Research Committee approval No.:158200-18/11-1057-572, 11-2018 鈥 10-2030, Project head: Dr P. Treigys.

The aim of biomedical research is to create a database of depersonalized eye fundus images to develop an artificial intelligence based system for early detection of eye fundus pathological changes that supports selected disease diagnosing, which will be used by primary care physicians and optometrists. Review and comparison of the topology of the deep learning networks based on the collected eye fundus data, development of models for disease recognition.

Research Council of Lithuania. COVID-19 Infection in Lithuania: Modelling and Analysis of Social-Economic Consequences (No. S-COV-20-34, 06-2020 鈥 12-2020). Project head: Dr O.

艩tikonien臈.ARIMA and a new attention-based forecasting method were used to develop short-term forecasts of confirmed cases of COVID-19, which aim to predict trends in the spread of the virus in Lithuania using data from other countries with a longer history. The performed analysis enables to review the measures applied in the countries of the same cluster to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the measures taken. International Research Projects

H2020National Competence Centres in the framework of EuroHPC (Ref. No. 951732). 01 September 2020鈥31 August 2022.

Within the EuroCC project under the European Union鈥檚 Horizon 2020 (H2020), participating countries are tasked with establishing a single National Competence Centre (NCC) in the area of high-performance computing (HPC) in their respective countries. These NCCs will coordinate activities in all HPC-related fields at the national level and serve as a contact point for customers from industry, science, (future) HPC experts, and the general public alike. The EuroCC project is funded 50 percent through H2020 (EuroHPC Joint Undertaking [JU]) and 50 percent through national funding programs within the partner countries. The EuroCC activities鈥攚ith 33 member and associated countries on board鈥攊s coordinated by the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS). The project aims to elevate the participating countries to a common high level in the fields of HPC, HPDA and artificial intelligence (AI). To this end, the EuroCC project will establish National Competence Centres (NCCs) in the participating countries, which will be responsible for surveying and documenting the core HPC, HPDA, and AI activities and competencies in their respective countries. Ultimately, the goal is to make HPC available to different users from science, industry, public administration, and society.

COST action A New Network of European Bioimage Analysts to Advance Life Science Imaging (NEUBIAS). Member of Managing Committee Assoc. Prof. Dr P.Treigys. 2016鈥2020.
This Action is a programme for establishing a network of BioImage Analysts (BIAlysts), to maximize the impact of advances in imaging technology on the Life-Sciences (LSc), and to boost the productivity of bioimaging-based research projects in Europe. BIAlysts have recently emerged in various research institutions, but these experts are still not well recognised in the LSc community. The Action aims to provide a stronger identity to BIAlysts by organising a new type of meeting fostering interactions between all stakeholders including Life scientists, BIAlysts, microscopists, developers and the private sector.

Human health and disease are characterized by a complex interplay of multiple factors from the genome to the exposome. For many complex diseases, a sufficiently detailed understanding of the underlying mechanisms has remained elusive, and therefore the development of effective cures continues to be major challenge. As a result, the socioeconomic burden (morbidity, mortality, financial cost) of complex diseases remains high and is likely to grow within Europe鈥檚 aging population. Systems medicine is an emerging interdisciplinary framework that aims to improve our understanding, prevention and treatment of complex diseases by integrating knowledge and data across multiple levels of biomedical organization.

COST action CA18231 Multi3Generation: Multi-task, Multilingual, Multi-modal Language Generation. Member of Managing Committee Dr G. Korvel. 2019鈥2023.

Language generation (LG) is a crucial technology if machines are to communicate with humans seamlessly using human natural language. A great number of different tasks within Natural Language Processing (NLP) are language generation tasks, and being able to effectively perform these tasks implies (1) that machines are equipped with world knowledge that can require multi-modal processing and reasoning (e.g., textual, visual and auditory inputs, or sensory data streams), and (2) the study of strong, novel Machine Learning (ML) methods (e.g., structured prediction, generative models), since virtually all state-of-the-art NLP models are learned from data. Moreover, human languages can differ wildly in their surface realisation (i.e. scripts) as well as their internal structure (i.e., grammar), which suggests that multilinguality is a central goal if machines are to perform seamless language generation. Language generation technologies would greatly benefit both public and private services offered to EU citizens in a multilingual Europe and have strong economic and societal impacts.

COST action CA15225 Fractional-Order Systems - Analysis, Synthesis and Their Importance for Future Design. Member of Managing Committee Assoc. Prof. Dr G. Tamulevi膷ius. 2016鈥2020.

Fractional-order systems have lately been attracting significant attention and gaining more acceptance as generalization to classical integer-order systems. Mathematical basics of fractional-order calculus were laid nearly 300 years ago and since that it has gained deeply rooted mathematical concepts. Today, it is known that many real dynamic systems cannot be described by a system of simple differential equation or of integer-order system. In practice we can encounter such systems in electronics, signal processing, thermodynamics, biology, medicine, control theory, etc. The Action will favour scientific advancement in the above areas by coordinating activities of academic research groups towards an efficient deployment of fractal theory to industry applications. The cooperation of researchers from different institutions will guarantee wide visibility of Action results. The main results were machine-learning algorithms for tumour classification, feature space analysis for machine-based recognition, machine-learning algorithms for multiscale data analysis, machine learning methods for language generation, efficient deployment of fractal theory to industry applications.

Theoretical and Applied Aspects of Machine Learning and Mathematical Modelling. Dr V. Marcinkevi膷ius. 2019鈥2021.

Main goal is development of the measuring metrics, conceptual and agent-based simulation model aimed at investigation of the social impact of cultural processes. The main results were new algorithms for 3D simulation and visualization of Riemann zeta function, experimental analysis of algorithms using ensembles of recurrent neural networks to detect phishing websites, a model for queueing networks consisting of 100 subnets under high load conditions.
LMT research group project No. P-MIP-17-368 鈥淒evelopment of metrics, conceptual and simulation models of the social impact of cultural processes鈥 was completed.

Analysis and Applications of Probabilistic and Deterministic Models. Prof. Dr Habil. K. Kubilius (leader). 2020鈥2021.

In 2008, part of J. E. Littlewood's hypothesis about the number of roots of trigonometric sums with bounded coefficients was refuted. Despite considerable interest in the Littlewood problem, no progress has been made in estimating the upper bound of the minimum number of roots over the past decade. New results have been achieved.

For a class of fractional stochastic differential equations (FSDEs) with coefficients that may not satisfy the linear growth condition and non-Lipschitz diffusion coefficient, the positivity of the solutions of these equations is proved. It is shown that the trajectories of the fractional CKLS model are not necessarily positive for a certain diffusion coefficient. The almost sure convergence rate of the backward Euler approximation scheme for solutions of the considered SDEs is obtained. A strongly consistent and asymptotically normal estimator of the Hurst index H>1/2 for positive solutions of FSDEs is obtained.
New iterative methods for solving systems of nonlinear differential equations with non-local conditions are investigated using the M-matrix theory.

Advanced Computational Intelligence Methods in Computer Science and its Applications in Information Technologies. Prof. R. Vaicekauskas. 2017鈥2020.

Application of formal methods to automated verification of well-formedness and semantic correctness of data sets from the railway domain has been investigated. Novel validation approach based on statistical testing of automatically generated verification conditions against pre-validated data sets was developed.

A global optimization algorithm hybridizing a version of Bayesian global search with local minimization was proposed. The performance of the proposed algorithm was illustrated by the results of a numerical experiment.

Gentzen type sequent calculi for logic of likelihood and propositional linear temporal logic with the operators 鈥渘ext鈥 and 鈥渦ntil鈥 have been developed.

Two unique Beltrami vector fields are constructed such that both have an orientation-preserving icosahedral symmetry. Both of them have an additional symmetry with respect to a non-trivial automorphism of the number field Q(5).Relations between the local properties (degree, clustering) and

global properties (component evolution, percolation, cover time) of sparse affiliation networks have been explored.

A two dimensional Dirichlet distribution was modelled by means of the sequences of distributions related to the generalized divisors function.

Two important kinds of open systems are computationally modelled and investigated: (1) biocatalytical systems, where a large number of microbioreactors are placed in a container filled with liquid, and (2) systems of active particles like bacteria moving in confined structures. New computational models have been developed and applied for the simulation and analysis of enzyme-based microbioreactor systems acting in continuous flow and batch modes. Tools for investigating dynamics of bacteria populations in fluids were developed.

Research on Detection of Premeditated Security Vulnerabilities in Mobile Applications and New Efficient TKHC-Based Image Sharing Scheme Over Unsecured Channel Was Conducted. Assoc. Prof. Dr L. Bukauskas. 2019鈥2023.

Rising numbers and sophistication of security threats in the digital domain cause an increase in the demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals. In response, cybersecurity exercises, and in particular - cyber defence exercises (CDX) are becoming ever more popular. They provide a training platform to simulate real-life situations. CDX are significant events involving months of preparation, and previous studies show a lack of objective evidence of their relevance regarding the learning impact. Skills of exercise participants are usually different and vary from tech-savvy to beginners. Also, trainees are diverse when considering their background, current work profile (position and institution), and experience. Assessment of their competencies is essential to ensure quality in training. The project aims were to investigate information sharing techniques during CDX events and cryptographic methods for efficient video image sharing.

Baltic Research Programme EEA Grant.) ADVANCES: Advancing Human Performance in Cybersecurity (No S-BMT-21-6 (LT08-2-LMT-K-01-051). Project leader - Dr A. Brilingait臈, L. Bukauskas. 2021鈥2023.

This project focuses on human performance improvement. Human error is the leading cause of data and security breaches. It has been proven in many cyber crises that the strength of the cyber resiliency capability is highly related to the resiliency of a human at play and coordinated actions of relevant actors. Cybersecurity strategies of the three Baltic countries unanimously emphasize the lack of cybersecurity specialists and the need to fill this gap by strengthening knowledge exchange and education programs. A coherent interdisciplinary approach that encompasses technology and human aspects is crucial to create new innovative training methods and environments in order to overcome the rising security problems. This project aims to establish a new interdisciplinary collaborative network among leading Baltic, Liechtenstein, and Norwegian research institutions. The network has been supported by national/international organizations and a private sector company. The recent development of crisis (such as COVID-19) handling shows the impact of digital technologies where human behaviour and comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity surpasses infrastructural technological solutions. Most economic sectors in Europe depend increasingly on protection against cybercrime. Moreover, IT security workers should be prepared for the future cyber crisis that may have a devastating impact on the national economy and security. The close and continuous cross-border cooperation with the national/international institutions and the private company ensures that the research outcomes will help fulfil these objectives. The project will further increase the sustainability of the outcomes by implementing long-term educational training schemes, ongoing student-/staff mobility between academic partners, involving students in private enterprises, and the integration of private enterprises into educational development.

Studies of Random Processes and Fields and Their Applications in Financial and Actuarial Mathematics. Prof. J. 艩iaulys. 2016鈥2021.

The upper bound were derived for the tail probability of maximum of sums with random summands having light-tailed distributions. Upper bounds were obtained for the ruin probability in the risk model with stochastic premiums and a special dividend strategy. The alternatives were developed of the classical Lee-Carter mortality model in assessment of uncertainty of mortality rates forecast. The possible limiting processes are established for the partial-sums of linear processes with heavy-tailed tapered innovations. The weak approximations by discrete random variables are obtained for Chan-Karolyi-Langstaff-Sanders and Constant Elasticity of Variance models.

The new algorithm was derived for calculating the values of ruin probability for the three-risk discrete time risk model. The closure property was established for sums of two random variables from convolution equivalent class. Sufficient conditions were found under which randomly stopped sums, randomly stopped maximums and randomly stopped maximums of sums have regularly varying distributions.

Problems of Number Theory and Investigation of Roots of Polynomials. Prof. A Drungilas, Prof. A. Garunk拧tis, Prof. A. Dubickas, Prof. A. Laurin膷ikas, Prof. E. Manstavi膷ius. 2019鈥2023.

Nontrivial linear relations with conjugates of a Salem number have been investigated. It was shown that for any positive integer m the number of residues in a Fibonacci type sequence modulo some m can be exactly m. Some extremal problems for polynomials with real roots have been studied and several new results obtained in that direction. In particular, we gave a rare explicit example of weighted Fekete points. New results on the joint approximation of collections of analytic functions by generalized discrete shifts of zeta-functions with periodic coefficients were obtained. Optimal lower and upper bounds for the variance of the linear statistics defined on random permutations with respect to the Ewens Sampling Formula were obtained. The sequences of Gram points and of imaginary parts of non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function were applied to obtain discrete universality theorems in short intervals. The distribution of the zeros of the derivative of the Lerch zeta function was studied. We indicated the zero-free regions and the positions of the trivial zeros. Also, we considered an asymptotic formula for the number of nontrivial zeros and showed that almost all nontrivial zeros are arbitrarily close to the critical line. We obtained the Levinson-Montgomery type result for the Lerch zeta function and its derivative when parameters are equal.

It was proved that for any field K and any polynomial f in the field K[x] of degree d, which is irreducible over K, there exists a degree d-1 polynomial g with coefficients in K such that the composition polynomial f(g(x)) is reducible over K. This answers a corresponding question recently raised by Ulas.

International Research Projects

European Social Fund. Approximations by Zeta-Functions and Algebraic Numbers (No. 09.3.3-LMT-K-712-01-0037). Prof. Dr Habil. A. Laurin膷ikas. 2017鈥2021.

It was shown that there exists an infinite set of positive integers S such that for each d in S the open disc with centre at 尉 and some radius (given explicitly in terms of d) contains a full set of conjugates of an algebraic integer of degree d. A slightly better bound on the radius is established when 尉 is a rational number but not an integer. The discrete universality in short intervals for the Riemann zeta function was proved and the functional independence for compositions was extended. Joint universality for Dirichlet functions was obtained by using shifts twisted by the Gram function.

Projects Supported by University Budget

Investigation of Solutions to Partial Differential Equations. Prof. Dr Habil K. Pileckas. 2018鈥2020.

  • The long-term potentiation was modeled and studied numerically to obtain the bistable behavior of the system. Mathematical model of carbon monoxide and hydrogen reaction proceeding over supported catalysts was proposed and numerically solved.
  • The Sturm-Liouville problem with one classical and another nonlocal two-point boundary condition was investigated. Zeroes, poles and critical points of the characteristic function and how the properties of this function depend on parameters in nonlocal boundary condition were analysed. Properties of the Spectrum Curves are formulated and illustrated in figures for various values of parameter.
  • The initial boundary value problem for the non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations was studied in 2D bounded domain with a power cusp singular point O on the boundary. The case of the boundary value with a nonzero flow rate is considered. In this case there is a source/sink in O and the solution necessary has infinite energy integral. The formal asymptotic expansion of the solution near the singular point is constructe and justified.

The phenomenological model for reduction of nitric oxide by hydrogen over supported catalysts was proposed and studied numerically. The existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to a model of surface reactions between two polyatomic reactants was studied and long-time behavior of the solutions was investigated.

Research Council of Lithuania. COVID-19 Infection in Lithuania: Modelling and Analysis of Social-Economic Consequences (No S-COV-20-4). Prof. O. 艩tikonien臈. 2020 06 01-2020 12 31.

Models based on data analysis were developed for the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and its socio-economic impact. The results of this project were used to manage crisis situations caused by COVID pandemic. The models of short-term forecasts and long-term scenarios of the spread of the infection in Lithuania were used. The impact of quarantine measures on the economy and individual sectors of the economy at the macroeconomic level during the first quarantine period has been assessed. Dissemination trends in Lithuania and other countries are compared using functional data analysis techniques. Probabilistic-statistical justification of group testing methods were performed.

European Social Fund. Multiscale Modeling for Viscous Flows in Domains with Complex Geometry (No. 09.3.3-LMT-K-712-01-0012). Prof. K. Pileckas. 2017鈭2021.

During the period of 2020, the method of asymptotic partial decomposition of a domain is proposed and justified for thin domains (rod structures, tube structures consisting of a set of thin cylinders). This method generates some special interface conditions between the three-dimensional and one-dimensional parts. Tests show good accuracy of the method.

In 2020, the existence and regularity of a solution of Navier-Stokes equations with boundary conditions for the Bernoulli pressure in thin tube structure were obtained. Also, the existence, uniqueness and regularity of a solution of the non-Newtonian flow system of equations in thin tube structure were studied. This system of equations with the shear rate dependent viscosity is more adequate for the blood flow modeling than the classical Navier-Stokes equations. The COMSOL compatible geometrical model for the left atrial appendage of the heart based on the computer tomography data is created.

Analysis and Applications of Functions and Stochastic Systems. Prof. A. Ra膷kauskas. 2016鈥2021.

The aims of the project are rough functions analysis; functional data analysis; approximation of stochastic systems; investigation of long memory processes. Local large deviations were investigated for runs statistics approximating Poisson, negative binomial and binomial distributions. Compound Poisson approximation in total variation was obtained for a special Markov three-state model related to actuarial mathematics.
The following integer valued time series models were analyzed: bivariate integer-valued autoregressive process of order 1 with copula-joint innovations was proposed and analyzed; seasonal INAR processes were studied. Some asymptotic results for p-variation of random walk were obtained and applied to a change point problem. New tests for outliers detection were proposed.
